The mixture of cars and horses was used quite a bit in the early 50s with Gene Autry and Roy Rogers, plus some films. I guess we forget how primitive some roads in the West until the late 30 to 50s.
Sound iss good also. Reviewer: cpaulg - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - April 16, Subject: One of the Best! So many websites categorize this series as a western. This is not what you'd consider a classic western. It takes place during the time it was broadcast, I think the 50s. They drive cars, have phones, crime labs, and all the other modern conveniences of 50s America. True, they do ride a lot of horses, but that's the only thing "western" about it.
This is definitely one of my favorite "based on fact" crime series. It's well acted and the scripts are realistic. Also, the theme song is arguably the best, most rousing theme songs ever written for radio. The commercials were a bonus. My one and only issue is with the sound effects. They over played the same howling coyote, the same stomping hooves of the same horses and worst of all is the same old rooster crowing over and over again in every episode.

A slightly crooked and modal version of this traditional standby tune. Although this is a 3-finger arrangement, it has a sort of old timey, clawhammer feel to it. I've always liked Sammy Shelor's version so I came up with this, which incorporates some hammer-on's and pull-off's.
It's double C tuning capo at 2nd fret. Thanks Tim. I have tried to keep the melody flowing at all times, adding fill notes while keeping the main notes in the usual places, using slides, syncopation, pinches and pull-offs to keep it in the bluegrass camp.
Here I have tabbed out parts for two banjos, and you can consider these as music blocks which you can absorb, change, move around as you feel. No capo - open G tuning.
Fiddle tune by J. Scott Skinner - I had to play it pretty slowly for a while so I could get the hang of the tripletts After awhile my muscle memory kicked in and I could play it up to speed.. Lynn Williams. This tab is in G dorian the 'home key' for sawmill tuning whereas Ms. Jarosz plays it in C. I'm hoping some kind and more experienced member could easily use Tabledit to cut and paste over to appropriately tuned banjo and clean up, since I'd have no idea!

Jimmy Martin, the King of Bluegrass Calypso. Who knew? I came up with a lead part which pretty much mimics the triplet runs you'll hear fiddlers play for this tune.

I have never done much with tablature, so I would love to hear what you all think. I have tabbed 3 breaks. Note the long tag at the end of the first break; I think I first heard it or something like it played by Bobby Thompson. The final D measures at the end of the second break feature one of my original D runs, and you might find it useful.
The third break includes some melodic sequences that you can plug into a variety of tunes. Note added in April I originally posted this tablature several years ago, and I have now modified it slightly.
Key of G, Capo 2 for Key of A. I kept finding myself making little changes as I wrote the tab. I did two versions, one "easy", just to provide the melodies as I play them and one "better" with the left and right hand flourishes and slurs. I tend to really accentuate the down beat notes on this song just to keep the rhythm driving. After all, it's Gospel. Let it preach, I say. The tuning is open G. Conceivably it might be better in double D, but I haven't tried that way yet Hope you like it-Glenn Weiser.
Uses thumb-and-pinch, then alternating thumb thumb in-and-out a. TITM , then mixes them up. One simple roll pattern gives three different endings! This is pretty much how I learned it without a tab from Jeff Kimball in This tuning works great for many songs in the key of "D" played in the melodic style. I will post more. There are two breaks, the first one going to the banjo and the second one a Reno-ish guitar break, part of which is taken from Jeremy Stephens guitar part on his CD, the "Scarlet Banjo".
