For anyone new to the series, Metro Exodus is a lot like a Halo game mixed in with Fallout — excellent story-driven campaign levels in a mutated and sometimes open world setting. The strongest element of the Metro series has always been the setting in which the games take place, and the pace at which events unfold.
Metro Exodus continues this trend. It keeps the disastrously mutated Russian landscapes and narrow underground pathways and lets players walk around for themselves, discovering and exploring in a way that never makes you feel as though your hand is being held, and letting fear and anxiety settle in.
